Five Social Media Tips for MSPs
I conducted a recent survey of 500 IT professionals and learned that, like many small businesses, LinkedIn is the most popular social network for IT managed service providers. Eighty-three per cent of service providers use LinkedIn, while 73% use Facebook and 53% rely on Twitter as part of their social media strategy.
How do you get the most for your IT Managed Service from your social media efforts? Here are a few tips to help maximize your return on investment:
Be wise about how you build your fan base
Number one fan contests are popular. Offer up a give away or free offer and you are sure to get fans. Figure out what you are willing to give away to grow your fan base. Larger companies can afford premium offerings. You may consider giving away a complimentary network assessment, the latest wireless mouse, an O/S upgrade or other relevant and valuable item to get more fans.
Engage your customers
Ask your customers to post testimonials to your social media sites. Nothing speaks better about your business than to have your satisfied customers recommend your services Engage your customers to friend, like, follow and join your social media efforts. When prospects look for information about your company, your happy customers will quickly post on your behalf.
Don’t forget to include your team
Have your employees, suppliers and other stakeholders, follow, post and engage in your social media activity. Don’t rely on your marketing team alone to keep relevant content on your microblogs. Engage your team to participate in social media activity for your company.
Be genuine in your voice
When posting, abandon formalities and create a voice that resonates with your followers. Let your customers know what you stand for. If your quest is to save customers from data loss then say so. Create a personality and stick with it. If your legal team starts to warn you, ignore as needed!
Keep in mind the bottom line
It is easy to go overboard and not have a lot to show for your social media efforts. Like any other marketing campaign make sure your social media activity is planned, budgeted and integrated with other marketing programs including; search engine optimization (SEO), email marketing and event marketing. If you do this, you will be sure to get the most from your social networking marketing efforts.
